Getting Ready for Spring!

As Spring approaches, we are all getting ready to see some flowers blooming and trees sprouting leaves in anticipation of Summer shade. But as pleasant as Spring is for all of us, there is still the pollen and dust to deal with! Yuck.
Spring used to mean for me a week or more with a BAD sinus infection, lots of antibiotics and heavy antihistamines and the like.
But for the past few years I have been using Shaklee's Alfalfa Complex, Zinc Complex and the occassional Defend and Resist to keep the sinus woes at bay! No more pain, no more runny nose and eyes! Yeah. Simple remedies that work. I have truly been amazed to get through Spring and Fall and Spring again and again with no loss of a week of my life due to sinus problems.
I can travel now without problems. Flying used to cause my ears to stop up so badly that I could not hear for a week or so. And the pain was miserable! But no longer.

Stay well and enjoy Spring with no Sinus problems!

Essential Oils

Essential Oils are popular now and are used in adding scent to homes and aroma therapy. However, according to a recent article in Cosmetics Design, caution should be taken with Essential Oils. From the current research, it seems that the evidence shows where Essential Oils can become allergens on contact with air and skin.

Upon contact with the oxygen and certain skin enzymes, according to recent research, Essential Oils may become allergenic. Certain oils are altered by environmental factors and can cause contact allergies in sensitive individuals, even if the oil itself is not an allergen in its pure form.

Care should be taken when using any Essential Oils in your home or office. Upon contact, rinse and wash the area thoroughly to avoid skin inflammation. Keep away from children as they are more sensitive to irritants.

Items like Green Tea and Baking Soda are good ways to freshen a room while being safe for you as well as the environment.

Fresh Air

Seems to be the norm these days to have an "air freshener" in most rooms in homes. Unfortunately, these convenient scented fresheners have some powerful chemistry in them that can cause more problems than the odors they are supposed to cover. Since there is a variety of ingredients in these products, I will not attempt here to go into all the possibilities.
The thing we have to remember is that clean air doesn't smell like lavender or roses, or such.
To enjoy a scent in your home, we need to think Natural! Use cinnamon, fresh ginger, your favorite herbs in a small pot of heated water.
Green tea does a great job of adding freshness to a room.
If you have persistent odors:

  • Clean the source frequently
  • Remove trash daily,
  • Do a deep cleaning with natural cleaners to rid the area of the source of the odor
  • Open windows to circulate fresh air.

Getting to know my way around Blogger! Looking for new designs and such. This is just the beginning of good things to come!
